After All of These Years...

Well... It’s official... After all the long years we spent together through thick and thin in an ofttimes strained relationship we’re going our seperate ways.

It’s not my choice... All I wanted was a little respect and some appreciation but even without them I wasn’t in any hurry to give up what we had together. I’m patient and I was willing to wait. Alas, I was told that I would be ousted on the 4th of May. That’s right, I’ve been dumped... by HP.

I can only hope that my new job with Foxconn come May 4th treats me better and doesn’t give me the boot as well...

And now for something completely different!

That title is a bit of a lie, really, because here I am complaining once more...

Today’s topic of interest? Well... My career is a point of constant aggravation as one can gather from my previous posts but it got even worse today.

As of about 7:15am local time I was officially informed that most of the jobs here at my place of employment would be outsourced and that most of the workers would either be laid off or transitioned to a different company.

Now this may not sound so bad but the problems are that (1) they plan on doing all of this by May 4 and (2) they don’t know the details!

So now we all get to wait to find out our fates and no one is pleased as we are all unsure of our futures. I guess it’s time to ramp up the job search...

I Got A Raise...

Well it seems that I only find my blog when I'm having a bad time and this post is no exception...

I got notified today that I will receive a raise today effective on my next paycheck. Normally people are happy when they find out that they're getting raises but not me! No... I got my yearly raise and it amounts to about forty dollars a month assuming I work all of my scheduled hours which, I might add, is a very unsafe assumption...

I really hate to be sour over this as I could have received no raise at all... I should probably be thankful and, trust me, I've tried... However, the fact that my raise doesn't even cover the increase in the cost of gas puts a serious damper on my raise celebration. And, of course, this raise does not take into consideration things like hard work or the fact that I earned a degree and should be making double what I am... It's just the standard 'you qualified' raise.

I don't know what I expected or whether I expected anything at all but this raise feels far more like a slap in the face than a recognition of achievement. I can't understand why a company that had record earnings all year last year and is on par to do it again thus far this year would treat its employees in this manner. I've always heard that HP is a great employer but I've yet to see it in my six years...

I've said it many times and will do so many more, I'm sure; I need a new job.
